NCA Honors Very Special Members At 86th Annual Convention
The National Cosmetology Association (NCA) honored several very special members for contributions to the industry and the association during its 86th Annual Convention in Chicago, March 2-5, 2006. The convention itself was dedicated to the memory of NCA Past President Carroll Roberts of Kentucky.
The Pillar of Leadership Awards
The NCA Pillar of Leadership Awards, established in 2005, provided a special opportunity to honor two distinguished members and colleagues for their contributions to the association’s core values. NCA President Josephine Zeppieri presented the Pillar of Leadership on Community Service Award to Sam Brocato of New York City, for his service as chairman of the NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina. Lydia Sarfati, also of New York, NY, received the NCA Pillar of Leadership Award for Education for her dedication to the education of estheticians and growing the value of EstheticsAmerica.
NCA Inducts McKinnon Into Hall of Renown
By special proclamation, the Board of Directors and the members of the National Cosmetology Association inducted one Americas’ member into the NCA Hall of Renown. The Hall of Renown is one of NCA’s most prestigious honors and presented in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding achievements as professional educators. This year’s recipient was Barbara McKinnon, a long time Americas’ Educator who has made significant contributions to the professional salon industry.
More Events and Awards at the 86th Convention
Exclusive to NCA members at the Convention, were two full days of education and inspiration on Friday and Saturday, March 3-4, 2006. The Pivot Point International Artistic Team presented a Spring/Summer Hands-on Workshop, and J. Scott Berry of Florida taught a two-part series for nail and esthetics professionals on anti-aging treatments and custom spa services.
In addition, more than 200 NCA members took part in an all-day “Lessons for Success” educational program on Saturday featuring three of the industry’s leading educators: Sam Brocato, Vivienne Mackinder and Martin Parsons.
