SalonLife'06: Inspiring Health, Wealth and Happiness for Salon Professionals
NCA, The National Cosmetology Association, launched a totally new, completely successful concept in education for salon professionals, called simply SalonLife’06, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas, July 17-18, 2006.
In attracting more than 700 salon owners and professionals, SalonLife’06 achieved its single purpose of inspiring salon professionals to make positive adjustments in the way they manage their lives in order to achieve an inspired life and brilliant career.
The two-day event featured well-known lifestyle experts: Bob Greene, Suze Orman, Mick Fleetwood and Amanda Gore, speaking on how to achieve health, wealth and happiness. Giving a professional take on the subjects were some of the industry’s most respected leaders in salon management, creativity, personal growth and health: James Morrison, Winn Claybaugh, Sam Brocato, Robert Cromeans, Ann Mincey, and Mary Beth Janssen.
At the conclusion of the event, NCA President Marlene Bridge noted “NCA has always strived to help salon professionals achieve better careers. With SalonLife’06, we have created an event that truly offers professionals the real possibility of improving their lives as well as careers.”
SalonLife’06 Adds $31,000 to NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina
In addition to the incredible speakers and audience participation, NCA raised more than $35,000 for the NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina! More than $10,000 was raised through the sale of Betsey Johnson designed tote bags donated by Redken 5th Avenue NYC and filled with products and other goodies from companies including PureOlogy, Repêchage, Innersense, John Paul Mitchell Systems, Brocato, Sally Beauty, Fromm and TIGI. The sale of T-Shirts designed by speaker Robert Cromeans, added to the Katrina Fund offers.
Cheryl (an NCA President’s Advisory Council member) and Jim Markham of PureOlogy donated over $10,000 to the NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina during the SalonLife. The money was raised through promotional efforts with their distributors and salons.
A special Poker Showdown, organized by Emmett & Beth Hickey of EOH Beauty Brands, raised another $11,000 for the Fund. Beth is a member of the NCA Board of Directors as well as on the NCA President’s Advisory Council.
While Jay Morris of Creative Nail Design was the big Showdown winner, the real winners from the tournament and other fund-raisers during SalonLife were the salon professionals affected by Katrina and other hurricanes of 2005 who can “rebuild beauty on the Gulf Coast” thanks to the Fund.
"The beauty industry is like family for most of us,” said Emmett Hickey. “Everyone in the industry can, in some small way, help their salon family by getting involved with the NCA Disaster Relief Fund.”
