NCA Makes 300+ Katrina Victims Members of the Association
The Board of Directors of the National Cosmetology Association recently voted unanimously to extend a free one-year membership in the association to every licensed professional who has been approved for Katrina funds. This act of generosity (valued at more than $30,000) will allow these salon professionals to have all the benefits of NCA membership while they are rebuilding their lives and their careers. Since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf, the salon industry has raised just over $660,000 through the NCA Disaster Fund/Katrina to help our own. Also in that time, NCA qualified and dispersed all of those funds to more than 350 survivors who applied for assistance.
“As of the first of February,” said NCA President Josephine Zeppieri, “we have additional applications for aid from more than 500 salon professional survivors of Katrina's devastation, leaving a funding shortfall of more than $260,000 in the NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina. And the applications for help continue to come in daily.”
“Their stories are ones of great sadness and great hope,” added Zeppieri. “Many have lost everything. They want and need to get back to work, back to their clients, and back to the lives they knew and loved in the salon. We are grateful to be able to help them with an NCA membership.”
